History

Our roots date back to 1998, founded as Currie Technologies, one of the very first electric bike companies in the United States. We patented a unique drive system and began powering some early generation electric bikes by brands like Schwinn Bicycles and others early into the electric bike space.

In 2005, as battery technology improved, we introduced the IZIP brand. These electric bikes were some of the first with integrated batteries and torque-sensing pedal-assist technology. In 2012, Currie Tech was acquired by Accell Group, N.V., the world’s leader in the electric bicycle field, and joined their portfolio of great brands such as Diamondback, Lapierre, Haibike, Ghost, Batavus, Sparta, Koga and Atala, just to name a few.

Today, as part of the largest and longest operating electric bike company in the US, IZIP electric bikes are solidly backed by a nationwide network of skilled independent local dealers, supported by our Electric Bike Competence Center (EBCC) in Simi Valley, California.
